Hello fellow pregnant mama! I too am a soon-to-be mom, but am also an artist, and photographer. I am currently in my second trimester, and I wish to begin a long term project exploring this journey that I have so recently embarked upon. (My first trimester took the life out of me, so I am enjoying my new found energy).
I feel photographing the process of pregnancy and birth of several other expecting moms would be both a powerful representation of the difficulties of carrying a child, but also inspire a shift in the physical perspectives on birth to the life giving beauty that it is.
I am looking for several women who are willing to collaborate on a project of this magnitude. It will require the photographing of the most intimate moments, as well as the long term commitment to work together through a large portion of the pregnancy and birth. But, this will be a journey that we will be taking together, and my primary focus will be the consideration of your privacy, as well as your comfort with the process.
Too often, the camera lens is aimed in the direction of those who are already over-represented in main stream media, leaving out minorities and changing the way in which vital aspects of human life are perceived— this often excludes people of color, those from working class backgrounds, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ individuals. I believe that these communities must be centered in this project, and encourage those individuals to consider collaborating.
If this is something that you are interested in contributing too, I would love to hear from you. Your privacy will be strictly protected, and completed photos will be made available to all participants. Any mothers in any phase of their journey are welcome!
Thank you and congratulations!
